What is Solid Surface?

Solid surface is a manufactured material composed of mineral dust combined with acrylic, resins, and pigments. The mineral dust used to create solid surface table tops is typically derived from marble. This mixture melts upon heating and is put into a mold to define its shape.

Why choose Solid Surface?

Versatility:

Solid surface table tops come in a wide range of colors and patterns. This range is created by mixing various ratios of pigments and mineral dust to create unique, one-of-a-kind surfaces that often mimic natural stone. Some of the designs include:

  • Solid colors
  • Small multicolored particulates resembling grains of sand
  • Larger particulates such as found in granite
  • Randomly veined with particulates variegated, swirled, and veined patterns

Durability:

Solid surface table tops are known to be hard and impact-resistant. Even when solid surface deals with impacts, the damage can easily be sanded out and repaired.

Non-porous and stain resistant:

Solid Surface is made from materials that are non-porous and do not require sealing. With minimal effort, you can easily maintain a hygienic surface in your home. For regular, everyday cleaning, homeowners can wipe down these surfaces with a soft cloth, dish soap, and water to keep them looking good as new.

Antimicrobial:

Solid surface will not support the growth of bacteria, which makes it an ideal choice in healthcare settings like hospitals, doctor's offices, gyms, hospices, and retirement homes.

Outdoor Applications:

Solid surface makes for a great choice for outdoor use. Lighter colors of solid surface show minimal weather or UV impact after many years. Freezing and hot weather do not impact the material other than expansion and contraction. Over time, the more saturated and darker colors may show a white haze that can be washed or sanded away.

What is Laminate?

Laminate is a material made from layers of paper that are tightly pressed together to form a thin, rigid sheet that is fairly easy to work with. This sheet is then glued to a wood substrate typically for table tops. It is a low-maintenance, and less expensive material choice.

Why choose Laminate?

Affordable:

Laminate table tops present an inexpensive alternative to pricier stone and solid-surface options. With an extensive array of designs that mimic the appearance of natural stone, laminate offers an affordable solution that doesn't compromise on style or durability.

Versatile:

Laminate comes in various colors and patterns and can be utilized for many purposes. In your home, laminate can be used for any surface such as in your kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and many more. Laminate is also an excellent choice for commercial spaces including restaurants, reception areas, and offices.

Easy to Maintain:

Unlike natural stone and wood, laminate is incredibly low-maintenance and easy to clean! All you need to do is wipe with warm water and dish soap. Scrubbing with a non-abrasive brush or sponge will remove any dirt or grime left behind.

Simple to install:

With laminate, you can choose to do it yourself or hire a pro.

Durable:

Laminate is known for being a high-performance surface that can withstand impact and resist scratches caused by daily use. With proper care, laminate can last for many years.
